Discover how this non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment can help relieve chronic, treatment-resistant nerve pain caused by long-term alcohol use.

By Dr. Jason Cooney, DC – Clinical Director
Living with alcohol-induced neuropathy can feel like a life sentence of daily nerve pain. For many, the burning, tingling, or stabbing sensations in the legs and feet persist long after drinking stops.
Even more frustrating—traditional pain management efforts– prescription pain medications, physical therapy or injections failed to lessen this type of treatment-resistant nerve pain.
At Scrambler Therapy NJ USA, we offer a non-invasive, drug-free, side-effect-free alternative designed to reduce or eliminate chronic nerve pain—even when other therapies have failed.
What Is Alcohol-Induced Neuropathy?

Alcohol-induced neuropathy is a form of peripheral nerve damage caused by long-term alcohol consumption. It typically affects the arms, legs, hands and feet, causing symptoms such as:
- Burning or shooting pain
- Muscle weakness or cramping
- Tingling or numbness
- Balance issues or coordination problems
Alcohol disrupts the absorption of essential nutrients like B vitamins, which are critical for nerve health. Over time, this damage can become treatment-resistant—even in people who are now sober.
How Scrambler Therapy Relieves Chronic Nerve Damage from Excessive Alcohol Consumption

Scrambler Therapy uses a gentle, surface electrode system to deliver “non-pain” messages to the brain over 10 35-minute treatment sessions. These messages retrain the brain’s pain memory by replacing the chronic pain signals with new, non-pain information. Learn more here: https://calmaretherapynj.com/about-2/
Unlike medications that often come with side effects or decreasing relief over time, Scrambler Therapy is:
- Non-invasive
- Medication-free
- Side effect-free.
Many patients experience significant, long-lasting nerve pain reduction—even after years of living with neuropathy.
One Patient’s Nerve Pain Relief Success Story

In July 2025, a patient with diagnosed alcohol-induced nerve pain turned to us when traditional pain management failed to reduce his debilitating nerve pain in his lower extremities.
He had recently celebrated 60 days of sobriety but continued to suffer from constant 7/10-level pain, accompanied by numbness, tingling, pins and needles, burning and occasional electric shocks.
These symptoms severely limited his ability to walk long distances, perform daily activities and enjoy playing golf.
He completed a 10-treatment scrambler therapy protocol, which specifically targeted the affected nerves. By the end of treatment, his pain had dropped to 0-2/10 with periods of no pain.
Additionally, he reported a significant reduction in numbness, tingling, and burning—particularly the burning sensation—which had been the most disruptive to his mobility and comfort.
We discussed a home exercise plan to improve circulation and proprioception (the sense to perceive the location, position, movement and action of our body parts in space, even without looking) along with the option of scrambler booster sessions in three to six months, if needed.
