A Personalized Introduction to Your Pain Relief Journey

Starting any new pain relief treatment can bring questions and uncertainty. At Scrambler Therapy NJ USA, our goal is to make your first therapy appointment informative, comfortable and reassuring from the moment you arrive.
Unlike many pain management treatments, Scrambler Therapy offers a unique collection of patient benefits:
- Non-invasive
- Drug-free
- Side-effect free
- Painless
- Cleared by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)
- Retrains the nervous system’s response to chronic pain
Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how relaxed and straightforward their first visit feels.
Your Visit Begins With a One-on-One Consultation
During your initial phone consultation with our Clinical Director, Dr. Jason Cooney, DC, you will discuss:
- Your pain history, previous pain management efforts, medical diagnoses, mobility challenges and overall pain relief goals.
- Mutually determine if Scrambler Therapy is suited to your neuropathic condition.
- If you are recommended for treatment, he will take this data (along with any subsequent lab tests we invite you to share with us via info@calmaretherapynj.com) and prepare a customized treatment plan.
During this conversation, he will also explain how Scrambler Therapy works, what sensations you may experience during treatment and what you can expect throughout the duration of the process.
Dr. Cooney will also discuss how you two will partner together to optimize the benefits of the MC-5A medical device to help ensure your comfort throughout the treatment protocol.
“Every patient’s treatment plan is unique. That’s why we take the time to educate, answer questions and create a personalized care plan—because confident, informed patients become active partners in their care.”
Dr. Jason Cooney, DC
Understanding How Scrambler Therapy Works
Scrambler Therapy uses surface electrodes placed on the skin near, but not directly over, the painful area. The device sends synthetic “non-pain” information through the nerves to help retrain the brain’s perception of chronic pain.
The treatment does not involve needles, injections, medications or surgery.
Most patients describe the sensation as gentle tingling, vibration or a light electrical stimulation. The intensity is carefully adjusted throughout the session to maximize comfort while achieving the desired therapeutic effect.

Your First Treatment Session
Following your pre-treatment in-person meeting with Dr. Cooney, the first treatment session will begin. Each session lasts about 35 minutes. You’ll remain fully awake and comfortably lying down during treatment.
Many patients choose to listen to music or simply rest during the session. Learn what additional relaxation services are available: https://youtube.com/shorts/2mhfs8hrR4E?feature=share
Some patients notice changes in their pain levels during the very first treatment, while others experience gradual improvement over multiple sessions. Both responses are completely normal.
Because Scrambler Therapy works by retraining nerve pathways, results often build over a series of treatments. Most treatment plans consist of 10 therapy sessions delivered on consecutive weekdays with a weekend to rest between treatment five and six.
Throughout the course of each therapy session, you will confer with Dr. Cooney about how you are feeling, measure your pain level and eventually determine mobility improvements, if applicable.
While we always note that Scrambler Therapy (also known as ‘Calmare Therapy’) does not work for everyone–even patients who are ideally suited to undergo the treatment–many achieve very significant pain relief which can be amplified as treatments progress.
“Keep in mind, sometimes pain relief begins after the first scrambler therapy session, sometimes relief begins after the fourth or fifth session.”
Dr. Jason Cooney, DC
What Happens After Treatment?
At the conclusion of your tenth session, we’ll discuss your pain and physical symptom (if applicable), discuss our proprietary post-treatment protocol and advise a customized program for you to increase your physical activity. We’ll also discuss your possible need for extra sleep after treatment and why this is completely normal.
Our team may provide simple recommendations designed to support your treatment progress between visits. We encourage patients to communicate any changes they experience so we can continue optimizing treatment throughout the series.
A Positive First Step Forward
Chronic pain can be an isolating experience. Many patients come to us after trying multiple treatments with little success, wondering if meaningful relief is still possible.

From your first appointment forward, our team is committed to working alongside you every step of the way. Feel free to tell Dr. Cooney how you really feel, so he can better understand your concerns and expectations.
Scrambler Therapy is not simply a procedure—it is a collaborative process that relies on communication, trust and a shared commitment to improving your quality of life.
Together, we’ll focus on one goal: helping you reduce—or potentially eliminate—your nerve pain so you can return to the activities, relationships and experiences that you so richly deserve.
We are honored to be part of your care and look forward to supporting your progress throughout the 10-treatment series.
Your positive mental outlook, admittedly challenging for some, will support the overall therapy protocol journey—one focused on listening, education, personalized care and the possibility of (finally) reducing chronic pain without prescription drugs or invasive procedures.
