In mid-May, Rhonda traveled from California for New Jersey to undergo 10 Calmare Therapy treatments after a toe injury in 2016 led to a CRPS diagnosis in both feet.
I was honored to treat her for two weeks, after she had endured four long years of unsuccessful medications, nerve blocks, physical therapy and Ketamine, which ultimately failed to reduce her pain level, which ranged from 2-10.
The hospital lab director had 10 Calmare treatments, once daily lasting about 30 minutes, and left at a 0/1 pain level, even during the night when her pain level traditionally spiked to 8+.
I was elated to use scrambler therapy to help get this healthcare worker back to work, where her heart lies.
But Rhonda is the hero, as she took a gamble, even during COVID-19, to win the war against chronic pain, by traveling 3,000 miles for our treatment.
Next week, she is returning to her beloved career once again, living life to the fullest.
Beginning in mid-May, we re-opened our pain management clinic in New Jersey, where we are treating only one patient at a time for optimal patient, family member and staff safety.

New Calmare Patients
If you are interested in pursuing Calmare Therapy for chronic nerve pain, please reach out to schedule your no-fee phone or video consultation with Dr. Cooney by calling (201) 933-4440 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Calmare scrambler therapy is not right for everyone and we will not recommend this therapy for you if the doctor does not feel there is a strong possibility for significant pain relief, elimination of pain, markedly improved mobility or a significant improvement in quality of life.
Depending on the severity of the original neuropathic pain condition, and the length of time the patient has been experiencing chronic pain, periodic booster treatments may be required to reduce any return of pain.
While some Calmare patients never require further treatment, some patients benefit from booster therapy as needed.
Feel free to speak with Dr. Cooney if you have experienced a resumption of pain to discuss next steps.
We are individually contacting patients and families that we were unable to treat due to the onset of the novel coronavirus in March. If you have not received a call to schedule your therapy for a future date, please call our team at (201) 933-4440.
Note that we are offering priority dates to previously confirmed patients and those traveling from outside the US.
Travel and Lodging Arrangements
For patients traveling outside the metro New York City area, please check with your preferred hotel and ensure they are fully operational to meet your needs.
The ultimate success of your Calmare Therapy depends on several variables.
In my opinion, other than being correctly pre-qualified as a patient candidate, the doctor administering the scrambler therapy will have a critical impact on your overall pain management success.
Therefore, your Calmare provider must have extensive expertise, training and clinical skill to accurately diagnose the precise location of the original pain site/s and set the MC-5A Calmare technology accurately to support pain relief.
Four key Calmare provider responsibilities:
Strategically positioning each of the scrambler therapy leads on the patient in accordance with the original injury and current pain regions
Setting, overseeing and adjusting the device settings during each of the 10 treatments
Managing and responding to ongoing patient feedback
Monitoring day-by-day pain management levels based on patient input.
I will be your Calmare provider, 100 percent of the time, from start to finish ─ no assistants, no support staff.
If these leads are placed in the wrong area, this lessens the overall capability of the Calmare MC-5A technology to optimally perform its job of lowering your pain and lessening any related physical symptoms.
I have also served as an expert Trainer for new doctors introducing Calmare.
This is a responsibility I take very seriously.
What to look for in your Calmare provider
The most experienced Calmare Therapy providers have received a careful review and on-site examination by the company’s administrators, who may or may not designate the top providers as Calmare Certified.
I strongly encourage you to seek out these providers for your therapy.
Secondly, ask the provider you are considering how many patients they have treated with your specific chronic pain condition ─ back and neck pain, post-surgical pain, RSD / CRPS / fibromyalgia, pain after chemotherapy, diabetic neuropathy, etc.
Your Calmare technology will be most successful when your chosen provider has advanced expertise in the placement of each lead.
Finally, peruse the internet and read reviews about the provider you are considering.
Speak with Our Calmare Therapy Clients
At Calmare NJ USA, we offer an exclusive program called the Patient-2-Patient program, where you can be in contact with one of our previous patients who has a similar medical condition to your own.
“Our nation desperately needs to evolve beyond the outdated notion that there is a pill to cure everything, particularly in the case of acute and chronic pain management.
The majority of patients we treat with scrambler therapy come to us frustrated and exhausted after enduring months and years of searching for chronic pain relief. They have often resorted to unproven surgeries, experimental procedures or powerful prescription pain medications, leaving them mentally and physically debilitated by the drugs’ side effects, and still in pain.
Scrambler therapy is a unique approach to retraining the brain by correcting the misfiring pain message.
There are no inherent risks to undergoing scrambler therapy. As I tell everyone who prepares to undergo the therapy, the only negative to this therapy is that it may not work for you, which happens in a small minority of cases.
We can tell within the first few sessions whether you are a good candidate.
It has no side effects, is not painful to undergo and is drug-free.”
We would love to tell you more about the potential pain relief you may experience by having Calmare Therapy.
Dr. Cooney speaks personally with every scrambler therapy candidate, as the therapy is not right for everyone.

Depending on the severity of the original condition, and the length of time the patient has been experiencing chronic pain, periodic booster treatments may be required to combat any return of pain.
While many patients never need further scrambler therapy, more advanced stages or prolonged or severe neuropathy, one or more boosters can be extremely useful against an elevation in pain.
What to Do if Your Neuropathic Pain Level Returns or Increases
Calmare patients who experience a recurrence of pain should document when the pain returns, subsides and what environmental issues were involved (stress, weather conditions, excessive use of the affected area) or if there was no specific cause for the elevation of pain.
We hope the lucky fellow who has the honor of taking this young lady to the dance appreciates how special she truly is!

“My biggest frustration is when our tried-and-true pain therapies do not result in a successful outcome for our patient.
As a result, these patients are forced to undergo more invasive procedures, such as surgically implanted spinal cord stimulators (SCS) or powerful narcotics, (even Ketamine), where pain reduction outcomes have been uneven and come with significant side effects.
What happens to these patients for whom traditional pain treatments and medications simply don’t work?”
One by one, patients battling treatment-resistant neuropathy, from Bergen County, NJ to Australia and South America, came to Rutherford for scrambler therapy performed by Dr. Cooney.
If traditional pain management procedures and medications have left you still battling chronic nerve pain, we invite you to reach out to us and speak directly with Dr. Cooney about your medical condition.
If the doctor feels scrambler therapy has a low probability of helping your condition, he will not advise you to come for treatment.

Tonya Schuler, a full-of-life fitness trainer from West Virginia, was diagnosed with CRPS after carpal tunnel surgery. The chronic pain started in one hand and soon spread to the other.
From there, the neuropathy affected her neck, back and stomach.
After trying a myriad of prescription pain drugs, injections and invasive procedures, her pain management doctor eventually recommended she have a spinal cord stimulator (SCS) surgically implanted into her back.
“When I realized an SCS was the final treatment option, I knew I had to take matters into my own (painful) hands and reach out to the CRPS community,” explains.
“A Facebook group that included thousands of other sufferers consistently mentioned Dr. Cooney and Calmare for helping reduce their pain, even for full-body sufferers.”
