Calmare Therapy NJ USA clinical director Dr. Michael Cooney contributed The 411 on Calmare Scrambler Therapy” to Pain News Network. The bylined article describes his clinical experience administering this newer therapy to help patients lessen or eliminate several types of diagnosed neuropathy, particularly CRPS / RSD, PHN, diabetic nerve pain, post-surgical pain and chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).

Dr. Cooney also discusses the merits of alternative medicine as a solution for treatment-resistant patients battling severe chronic pain.

Pain News Networkreaching more than 100,000 unique readers each month, is a non-profit, independent news source for information and commentary about chronic pain and pain management. The publication’s mission is to raise awareness about chronic pain and connect and educate pain sufferers, caregivers, healthcare providers and the public about the pain experience.

“I’ve followed this publication for some time and believed their readers would be open to learning more about Calmare Therapy, particularly the fact that it is drug-free, painless and has no side effects,” says Dr. Cooney.

Article Introduction:

“Personally and professionally, my biggest frustration is when our therapies do not achieve a Calmare leads on back 2_2014successful patient outcome.

Often, “treatment-resistant” patients are forced to seek out more invasive procedures – surgeries, spinal cord stimulators, or powerful narcotics such as ketamine − where success has been uneven, but side effects can be significant.

I wasn’t comfortable recommending these “next level” neuropathic pain treatments for my patients. So my partner Dr. Robert Kelly and I spent two years looking for a non-invasive therapy that didn’t cause pain or come with added side effects.”

Calmare NJ’s Patient-to-Patient Program in Action

CALMARE P2P WEB BANNERSince so many people with neuropathy /chronic pain have attempted several different treatments and therapies to minimize their discomfort (often without success), we launched our exclusive Patient-to-Patient Program which puts potential Calmare Therapy patients in touch with another patient with the same disease / medical condition who has already undergone scrambler therapy with us.

We thought it was a great way to help future patients feel less anxiety about moving forward and it offered the freedom to share experiences and concerns with someone who could relate to their battle.

We have more than 50 previous Calmare patients who are part of this program and volunteer their time to talk with new patients by email, phone or Skype.
Diana Slade,
a South African with CRPS who traveled more than 7,000 miles to New Jersey for treatment last year, chatted via email a few months ago with a new patient from Missouri, also with CRPS, prior to her coming here for treatment.

Here’s an excerpt of an email Di sent to the woman in Missouri:

Di’s CRPS Diagnosis and Treatment History:

“I developed CRPS in my foot 6 long years ago after back surgery. I had joint degeneration in my lower spine, chips off L5 and L4, and overall wear and tear (too many horses and motorbikes!).

In all, I had 8 back operations.

I went through every painkiller you can imagine, courses of epileptic drugs, Ketamine creme, and two rhizotomies (an invasive surgical procedure which severs nerve roots in the spinal cord through the insertion of an electrified hot probe to the sensory nerve just outside the joint).  After these efforts were unsuccessful, I went through a long, painful and ultimately failed spinal cord stimulator implant.

My husband discovered Calmare on an Internet search and we soon realized Dr. Cooney in the U.S. specialized in CRPS cases. While going for treatment in Italy would have been closer, we decided to fly 15 hours to Newark, New Jersey, USA, for Dr. Cooney’s treatment in late 2014.

When I arrived in the States at Dr. Cooney’s clinic, my pain level was a 10/10.

There was no improvement after 3 daily treatments. But on day 4, everything started to change quickly. (I recall Dr. Cooney smiling wryly at my expression of utter shock).

My pain began to steadily diminish every day after that. After 11 treatments,  I left the U.S. PAIN FREE for the first time I can remember.  Even sitting on the loooonnng flight back to South Africa–no pain!! w my life has changed since Calmare

  • I am no longer living a ‘blurry life’. ( I do not take any pain medications)
  • I can take a shower
  • I can easily put-on and take-off a pair of socks
  • I sleep for 6 hours straight
  • I can finally put my foot in a stirrup again and ride (my business and my passion)
  • My family has their Mom back!

As Dr. Cooney tells everyone, this is not a “miracle cure” but it is a treatment that works for many people — and I was fortunate to have been one of them.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend a spinal implant or pump of any sort. In my experience, there are too many that fail.  And then what??

Doc and his staff, especially Cathy, are amazing. Having read your email, what have you to lose?  You have a life to regain.

Please shout if I can help you with anything else and good luck!

Di

Yes, I am a chiropractor, also

This week I’ve had two different patients tell me they didn’t know I was a chiropractor; rather, they assumed I administered Calmare scrambler therapy exclusively.

I have actually been a practicing chiropractic physician in Bergen County for more than 30 years at Rutherford Allied Medical Group here in Rutherford. Some years ago, I was frustrated that we had some patients for whom traditional chiropractic services, and even alternative therapies such as acupuncture, did not lessen or alleviate their acute or chronic pain.

Dr. Robert Kelly, our staff physician, and I agreed we would not resort to him prescribing painkillers, in most cases. Thus, our search for another solution let us, finally, to Calmare Pain Therapy Treatment.

Every day, we see patients who live down the street or across the country (as far away as Europe and Australia) in need of pain management to rid them of acute and the most severe chronic pain.

Everyone on our team truly loves being here (and we’ll tell you when you’re here, believe me) because we have an opportunity to use our skills and today’s technology to help people in pain.

I truly have the best job in the world. Good weekend all!
