Abby Uses Calmare Therapy to Prepare for Her Prom

March 29, 2019

Abby from Vermont was here this week for three booster treatments.

The teenager and her family first came to us in 2015 when Abby’s CRPS was uncontrolled and spreading.

Now age 17 and getting ready for her first prom (gasp), she arrived at a 4/5 pain level in her leg.

Her motivation?

“Abby didn’t want to attend her prom with any chronic pain.”

Three sessions later, she left pain-free again.

Why Calmare Scrambler Therapy Can be Ideal for Treating Pediatric Neuropathy

Depending on the severity of the original condition, and the length of time the patient has been experiencing chronic pain, periodic booster treatments may be required to combat any return of pain.

While many patients never need further scrambler therapy, more advanced stages or prolonged or severe neuropathy, one or more boosters can be extremely useful against an elevation in pain.

What to Do if Your Neuropathic Pain Level Returns or Increases

Calmare patients who experience a recurrence of pain should document when the pain returns, subsides and what environmental issues were involved (stress, weather conditions, excessive use of the affected area) or if there was no specific cause for the elevation of pain.

We hope the lucky fellow who has the honor of taking this young lady to the dance appreciates how special she truly is!

Laurie’s Calmare Booster Treatments Tame CRPS Pain and Physical Symptoms

October 3, 2018

crps treatment

We welcomed back chronic pain warrior, Laurie Mounts, who traveled 3,000 miles from the U.S. Northwest to undergo Calmare booster treatments.

Warriors like this young woman are why we do what we do.

Her unrelenting will to win the CRPS war is an inspiration to all of us.

Laurie has battled a lengthy and severe battle with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) for 10 long years, after a simple fall on the stairs in 2008.

CRPS Can Be More Than Just Severe Chronic Pain

While she aggressively tried prescription medications and other neuropathic pain treatments, they were unsuccessful in reducing her high pain level and associated CRPS symptoms:

Calmare Treatment for CRPS
Allodynia
  • Allodynia
  • Neuropathic pain up to 9/10
  • Skin discoloration
  • Skin tingling, sweats and burning
  • Inability to achieve sustained sleep
  • Brittle hair

Over time, her RSD condition spread from her ankles up to her shoulders, resulting in full body CRPS.

She came to us in 2014 as a last-ditch effort to garner some much-needed relief.

Her outcome was remarkable.

Laurie and her mother Ruth describe her medical history during their first visit to Calmare Therapy NJ USA in 2014.

Calmare scrambler therapy is drug-free, painless and has no side effects. It has been FDA-cleared for nearly a decade.

Laurie Battles Back When Chronic Pain Levels Increase

Due to the longevity and severity of Laurie’s CRPS condition, the disease symptoms slowly returned. In late September 2018,  Laurie and her family returned to New Jersey for additional therapy sessions (boosters) to reduce pain and related symptoms.

After several treatments, Laurie posted this message, which we are sharing with her permission:

“Well, it’s the end of my time here on the East Coast.

I’m currently having my final Calmare booster treatment.

Knowing I can come here to get relief from this pain is so helpful! I don’t know what I would have done without them in my life!

Thank you for all you guys do for all of us CRPS warriors!

I’m so thankful for Doc Cooney and all he does to help with my (and so many others) pain.

He definitely goes above and beyond for his patients.

I’m also so thankful for all of my friends and family for the prayers and thoughts as we’ve battled this disease through the years.

I wouldn’t have made it without you! 🧡🧡

Dr. Michael Cooney is one of only seven Calmare-Certified providers in the United States. He has successfully treated (eliminated or significantly reduced chronic pain) for nearly 500 patients from around the world.

Lauren Writes Letter of Thanks for Her Husband’s Calmare Therapy

May 29, 2018

Robert Vaughn adds his pin to the Calmare NJ USA patient map. May 2018

We were honored to receive this email message from Lauren Vaughn at the conclusion of her husband’s two-week Calmare protocol for CRPS (diagnosed in 2013). The couple generously permitted us to share it below.

“As we approach our last day with you, I wanted to send my sincere thank you!

It has been such a positive experience for my husband and myself! We have seen so much progress!

To see Robert live with 8 or 9 out of a scale of 10 pain level for the past 5+ years has been difficult, to say the least!

You have given us hope for the future!

Within the past two weeks we have observed his pain level decrease to a 3 out of 10! Unbelievable!

Not only is the treatment amazing, but Dr. Cooney and the staff have been such a joy to work with!

From the bottom of our hearts we will be forever grateful!

Thank you for giving our family hope again! Thank you again for your amazing partnership in Robert’s treatment and recovery.”

Quality of life is a gift that few can give and you have certainly given us that back!

“VA Turns to Alternative Pain Treatments Amid Opioid Crisis”

May 17, 2018

“Pain is rampant among veterans. Nearly 60 percent of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are afflicted by chronic pain, as are more than 50 percent of older veterans. Many have returned home with battlefield injuries, but even more suffer back ailments, nerve damage, headaches, and other forms of severe pain that come with age and inadequate treatment.”

The U.S. Air Force offers Calmare Therapy to airmen suffering from chronic nerve pain.

Since Calmare scrambler therapy was introduced in the United States, the Veteran’s Administration was one of the first healthcare organizations to purchase MC-5A devices and try the drug-free therapy to lessen several types of chronic pain.

Today, Calmare is offered at several VA hospitals worldwide and is also a covered treatment, enabling veterans to obtain scrambler therapy at any provider, including Calmare Therapy NJ USA, (with a referral from a VA-affiliated doctor).

U.S. Veterans are Covered for Calmare Pain Therapy with Referral

This week, the Boston Globe published a terrific article highlighting that the VA is aggressively adopting alternative medicine alternatives to battle pain instead of opioids.

While we were disappointed not to see Calmare featured (CPT Code 0278T), we were pleased to see recognition of the VA’s effort to treat neuropathy without opioids.
