Teenager with RSD Discovers Calmare Scrambler Therapy on YouTube

March 13, 2019

Leave it to the teenagers to discover Calmare scrambler therapy on YouTube!

Since we launched scrambler therapy here in New Jersey in 2011, we have used YouTube to share patient case studies with a broader audience seeking drug-free, alternative treatments for chronic nerve pain.

Today, we have nearly 50 patient outcomes on our channel and nearly 100 more featured on our blog-based website.

Emma from Montreal is a 16-year-old suffering from CRPS as a result of a fall from a bicycle.

After battling intensifying pain in her right and then left leg for the past year, her neuropathy eventually prohibited her from attending high school and seeing friends regularly.

She had undergone pain management injections and even reported to Ketamine to help lessen her pain.

All efforts were unsuccessful.

A Teenager Discovers Her Own CRPS Pain Relief Solution

She searched “CRPS” on YouTube one day, hoping to discover other young people like her who were socially isolated because of the condition.

During her search, she discovered several teenagers from around the world who had successfully undergone Calmare scrambler therapy with us and left pain-free or at significantly reduced pain levels, including:

Kira from Scotland, age 13

Austin from AZ, age 18

Maiya, age 15

Evan, mid-Atlantic US, age 13

Emma and her parents arrived here in Rutherford on February 25, 2019; her pain level hovered around 7.5/10.

Steadily, each day, she underwent her scrambler therapy treatment and most days, her pain level decreased. On the tenth and final day of therapy, she left with a 2/10 pain level, which had been sustained for a few days.

Only Calmare Therapy NJ USA Offers Diagnostic BrainSpan

Emma is obviously elated that she finally discovered a treatment to reduce her CRPS pain.

Her number one priority when she gets back to Toronto is to “be back in school with all my friends again.”

An Update form Emma’s Parents

Since returning to her life back in Canada, Emma’s parents dropped us an update this week:

Hello Dr.  Cooney,

I wanted to give you an update on Emma:

The pain is down to a 1 in both legs and she said that sometimes she feels no pain all.

This truly is a life changer for Emma and we can’t thank you enough.

Have a nice evening!

BrainSpan™ Diagnostic Services Improve Calmare Patient Outcomes

April 18, 2018

Through the examination of nerve cells, we can diagnose potential inflammation, which may the root cause of chronic pain symptoms.

At Calmare Therapy NJ USA, your scrambler therapy protocol includes more than pre-treatment consultations, multiple therapy sessions — performed only by clinical director Dr. Michael Cooney — and monitored follow-up care.

BrainSpan™ Diagnostic Services– Only at Calmare NJ USA

Before your Calmare Therapy treatments begin, you will undergo two tests that diagnose cell health, the foundation for optimal brain and body health.

These simple blood (prick-only) and cognitive (performed online) tests measure cell health and inflammatory balance.

Nerve cells (neurons) stained and mounted for microscopic examination of health, abnormalities or inflammation.

“But what do cells have to do with my chronic pain?” you may ask.

Examining your cellular structure gives us (your treatment provider) a precise diagnostic measurement of the health of your cells and the overall nervous system.

Your brain’s connectors can become stronger or weaker over time due to small and repetitious physical, nutritional, or emotional events.

Brain health markers can be quantified by analyzing essential fatty acid biomarkers in your blood cells.

The Omega-3 Index Factor in Treating Nerve Pain

In partnership with our Calmare scrambler therapy, we concentrate on:

  • Omega-3 Index
  • Inflammatory Index
  • Palmitic Acid Index

A high Omega-3 Index can help provide effective pain relief for people with chronic musculoskeletal pain.

How Cell Health Diagnostics Can Help Chronic Pain Management

Neuropathies (chronic nerve pain) can be a direct result of deficiencies in the Omega 3’s that ultimately results in an inflammatory process (inflammation), which can lead to a prolonged pain cycle referred to as chronic pain or neuropathy.

We are excited to introduce BrainSpan™’s new and non-invasive diagnostic tools as a valuable partner with our FDA-cleared Calmare scrambler therapy treatment protocol.

U.S. Air Force Offers Airmen Drug-Free Calmare Therapy Chronic Pain Treatment

December 3, 2017

chronic pain therapy
The U.S. Air Force offers Calmare Therapy to airmen suffering from chronic nerve pain.

It is exciting to see our U.S. Military continue to promote the use of opioid-free Calmare scrambler therapy to treat several types of chronic pain, including complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) in Air Force members and their families.

A recent article published on their website noted:

“NST (nerve scrambler therapy) is one of the Medical Wing’s most cutting-edge methods for managing chronic and debilitative nerve pain that impacts warfighters’ job performance and long-term quality of life.”

The Calmare MC-5A device transmits low-grade electrical messages between the pain site and the brain, scrambling the pain messaging.

The article also states that because of a thorough Air Force screening process, they have been very successful with Calmare Therapy and there have been no known or reported side effects or injuries from the use of this machine.

Phantom Limb Pain Treatment

The article states that Calmare is also commonly used to treat a condition found among some wounded warriors known as phantom limb pain. Phantom limb pain is a condition in which an amputee experiences pain sensation from the part of the body that was removed.

Have Painkillers, Invasive Treatments and Therapies Failed to Lessen Your Neuropathic Pain?

Nearly all of the patients we treat have already traveled down that same path, also.

Deb Balzano Describes Her CRPS Onset and How She Fought Back

July 21, 2017

Deb Balzano of New Jersey experienced an intensifying burning and stabbing sensation months after a foot surgery.

She explains how CRPS, a condition she had never heard of, soon took over her life, and how she and her husband battled back.

Star Describes her Calmare Therapy Treatment Outcome for CRPS Pain

May 4, 2017

Star and her husband arrived here from Maine a few weeks ago. Seven long years ago, Star sustained a left hand injury, eventually resulting in CRPS, which spread to her whole body, taking away her independence and quality of life.

For those of you suffering from RSD /  CRPS, this story may sound all too familiar…

Star talks about her Calmare scrambler therapy treatments below and kindly allowed us to share her recent Facebook post, where she described her medical history and eventual treatment outcome after 10 scrambler therapy treatments, performed by CRPS specialist, Dr. Michael Cooney, clinical director.

Facebook update by Star on May 1, 2017:

“I want to share my journey through RSD/CRPS.

I was injured in my left hand/wrist, which started me on this path through a very lonely hell for the past 7 years. Soon after my injury, I developed RSD/CRPS in my left hand/wrist. Over time, it spread to entire body involvement.

I lost so much during this time like my independence, job, friends, sense of self, and very importantly I lost my will to live. The burning pain and stabbing hurt so bad that no conventional medication or therapy was helping.

I have been through years of physical & occupational therapy, pool therapy, mirror therapy, trigger point injections, 5 stellate ganglion blocks in my neck, HBOT therapy, over a dozen specialists, numerous nerve conduction testing, and the list goes on and on…

I was even considering spinal cord stimulation or Ketamine Coma therapy. Both not FDA approved and extremely invasive procedures.

I am very fortunate that I have an amazing husband, family and close friends that wouldn’t give up on me but more importantly they wouldn’t let me give up on myself and life.

My husband found Dr. Michael Cooney in Rutherford NJ who performs Calmare Scrambler Therapy. I had never heard of this procedure and we did lots of research into it and Dr. Cooney.

I called Dr. Cooney’s office and spoke at length with his staff member, Cathy, and she was so helpful and kind answering all my questions and helping me be at ease about going in for this therapy.

We arrived at the clinic and were immediately greeted by Cathy, Barbara and Dr. Cooney. Up until this point, I was feeling optimistically hopeful that this would be the treatment that finally worked for me. I arrived at the clinic with a 8-10+ pain scale for the past several years–with little to no relief.

After just one treatment, I was already feeling a tiny bit better. Each day, I gradually felt less pain and RSD/CRPS symptoms. (Resting between treatments and for 7-10 days after treatment ends is key to healing).

I left treatment after the 10 sessions feeling like an entire new lease on life had just been gifted to me. My pain levels dropped to a manageable 3-4.

I have been asked if I have been cured and my response is no, this is not a cure, however, it has lessened my pain and symptoms considerably and I am still healing. There is no way to know how long this last , or when and if I would need a booster treatment in the future.

Regardless,  I would do it again and every moment I am not in severe pain and agony, I will always be grateful to those who were a part of my journey and continue to be my special warriors.

I still have a very long road ahead of me in rehabilitation, but now the difference is I have less pain and hope for the future again.

Forever thankful to those who stood by me!!!”
