Calmare pain therapy treatment

San Franciscan Daniel Newman discovers Calmare from another CRPS sufferer

Daniel NewmanDaniel Newman was not winning his long battle with CRPS in his lower leg.

But a fortuitous conversation with Amy Ratner, also a CRPS sufferer who achieved remission after Dr. Michael Cooney’s Calmare scrambler therapy, proved to be a very valuable conversation.

Daniel arrived here in NJ as one of our more skeptical patients (rightfully so after enduring a long list of previous treatments and medications).

Before his flight back to California, he took a few moments to discuss his treatment experience and outcome:

Dr. Cooney to guest on “RSD and You” Fri., June 22

Dr. Michael Cooney, director of the Calmare program at Rutherford Allied Medical Group, will appear on Joseph Aquilino’s RSD and You” Blog Talk Radio  program Friday, 6/22 at 3 p.m eastern time.  This episode should be particularly interesting as Joseph is currently undergoing Calmare Therapy treatment (with another doctor).

Joseph has been living with severe RSD after a work-related accident several years ago. To date, other treatment efforts have been unsuccessful. He is chronicling his Calmare treatment on Facebook here!/groups/calmarejourney/

You may wish to register with Blog Talk Radio in advance so you can post live questions for Dr. Cooney online and read the ongoing IM dialogue during the show. You can also call in to talk directly with Dr. Cooney at (310) 982-4253 once the show is underway.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) patient begins Calmare Therapy

As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we welcomed our first Calmare Therapy patient from Europe (Amsterdam) this week who is undergoing treatment to combat chronic bilateral foot pain as a result of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, or CIPN. As we and others have shared in the past, CIPN pain is notoriously difficult to treat successfully.

Our patient contracted CIPN three months after undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer more than three years ago.  Her pain level escalated to a seven and she began having difficulty walking. She is undergoing 10 Calmare treatments and her outcome looks very positive. We look forward to sharing her outcome as she therapy progresses.

“RSD and You” radio program excerpts

It was a pleasure talking with Joe Aquilino on his “RSD and You” radio program on Friday. Joe is very passionate about RSD (he is also a patient) and acts as a well-known national advocate for alternative treatment therapies for the disease as well as fibromyalgia.  He shares information and resources with more than 53,000 followers on Twitter and nearly 4, 000 friends on Facebook.

Calmare Pain Therapy Helping Chronic Pain Sufferers

The past few weeks have been particularly exciting here at Rutherford Allied Medical Group. We have been treating several patients with a variety of chronic pain conditions using Calmare Pain Therapy Treatment.

These patients are dealing with chronic pain for different reasons─Cecilia had been experiencing post surgical hand pain for the past six years and living with a pain level as high as 9/10 out of 10; Melissa has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and Leonida has been suffering from post surgical neck and arm pain for 10 long years. Another patient was no longer able to prepare meals for her family, one of her favorite things to do.

These patients painstakingly researched Calmare Therapy at the recommendation of their family or pain management physicians. Several commented that the FDA’s clearance of the therapy made them feel more confidant about trying it. Melissa tried just about every other chronic pain remedy available for her RSD and was pleased to learn Calmare had no side effects which would add to her existing pain.

We are happy to report patients have been so delighted with the results of this therapy they have volunteered to share their personal stories on a Calmare video we are now completing. Their results were achieved after 30-45-minute daily Calmare treatments for just one week. We believe actual patients sharing their experiences speaks in the truest voice possible about this treatment option for patients who are tired of pain medication and want to live life to the fullest again.

As always, please feel free to contact us at (201) 933-4440 to talk with any of our doctors about your chronic pain condition. If we determine Calmare may be an appropriate therapy for you, we will meet with you in person to talk further and try Calmare Therapy, at no cost.

 Wishing you a pain-free day,

Dr. Michael Cooney

Walter Reed Memorial using Calmare Pain Therapy

The Surgeon General of the United States Army and Commanding General of the United States Army Medical Command approved the use of Calmare Pain Therapy Treatment at their flagship medical center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., for injured soldiers and other military personnel.

According to the American Pain Society, nine out of 10 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans return home with some form of pain and about 60 percent have significant pain, mainly from the “cumulative effect of exposure to recurring blasts.”

“The pain constellation exhibited by returning service members is the most complex situation I have ever seen in my 30 years of practice and calls for a revolutionary new approach to simultaneously address the spectrum of shared, common symptoms across these severe disorders,” said Michael E. Clark, Ph.D., clinical director of the Veteran Administration’s largest pain management and rehabilitation program in Tampa.

Not all wounds of war leave a scar. Some of the worst injuries are incurred when soldiers are jolted during travel, protecting themselves from attack, or surviving an explosion where the soldier is thrown, but not visibly wounded. These injuries are often the worst. Left untreated, this can result in muscle skeletal joint pain, a chronic aching that won’t go away. Use of Calmare Pain Relief Therapy provides chronic pain relief without addictive pain medications or invasive surgery.

Rutherford Allied Medical is proud to offer Calmare Therapy, available in fewer than 20 locations nationwide.

Five Ways Your Prescription Pain Medication Is Hurting You

By Dr. Michael J. Cooney

For many people, prescription pain medication is a way of life. Unfortunately, use of these drugs is not without cost. We have outlined the five ways pain medications have a negative impact on your body and overall health.

1. Weakens Your Natural Pain Control

Your body was designed to cope with extensive pain by releasing chemicals to the site of injured areas. Pain medications decrease the need for these chemicals to be produced by the body.

2. Debilitating & Harmful Side Effects

Pain medications have side effects―nausea, sleep disruption, lack of mental clarity, lack of energy, depression and potential damage to key organs such as liver, kidney, and heart. These side effects can occur as soon as the first pill you consume.

3. Drugs Do Not Resolve the Pain

Rather, they only help to mask the symptoms as opposed to identifying and alleviating the root cause of the pain. In other words, the use of pain medication is often without end.

4. Potential Interactions With Other Medications

It can be as simple as having to use an alternative allergy medication to avoid complications with your pain medicine. Or it can be as severe as having an emergency illness that requires surgery or additional medicine. If your current pain medications interact negatively with the surgery or additional medicine, your healthcare protocol can be compromised.

5. Exorbitant Prescription Drug Costs

The prices that prescription drugmakers charge wholesalers increased at 15.5 times the overall producer inflation rate last year, according to a Senate report. Patients have come to our practice spending as much as $2,700/month out of their own pockets for pain medication.

This is one of the reasons we are so encouraged by the results of Calmare Therapy. There are no drugs and no side effects. The FDA has studied, tested and approved the use of the device in the United States. And the cost of 10 treatments pales in comparison to that of prescription drugs. We hope you will contact us to talk about an entirely new option to end the pain. It’s the solution for a new age and we look forward to sharing it with you.
