Nerve Pain After Chemotherapy Reduced After Calmare Scrambler Therapy

February 20, 2019

pain treatment after chemo

Kudos to our patients who aren’t phased by the approaching snow event this week.

Their nearby hotels will bring them to/from our clinic and we’ll keep the doors open to treat everyone, rest assured.

We are increasingly welcoming more people battling nerve pain after chemotherapy treatment. (This neuropathy generally scoffs at traditional pain medication).

Very, very uplifting for us to see these patients mobile and smiling again.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy or CIPN is caused by the heavy metals in the these medications which strive to eradicate cancer cells, but may also cause significant nerve damage in the process.

The after-effects of chemo can be life-saving, most assuredly, but can later diminish the patient’s quality of life with resulting nerve pain.

Symptoms of CIPN

If you have peripheral neuropathy, you may notice some of these sensations in your hands or feet:

  • Tingling (or a “pins and needles”)
  • Burning or hot sensation under your skin
  • Numbness or weakness
  • Regionalized or full-body pain
  • Reduced sensation to hot and cold temps
  • Chronic Cramping (mostly in the lower extremities)

Studies show that as many as 50 percent of chemo patients suffer from CIPN, a tremendously painful condition that is famously difficult to treat with traditional medication, most commonly Cymbalta, Lyrica, or Gabapentin, and standard pain management strategies.

It can also reduce the quality of life due to chronic tingling and numbness in the hands and feet.  Mobility and other essential activities of daily living can become impossible.

Calmare’s Electronic Stimulation Proven to Reduce Chemo Nerve Pain

That’s why the news from several studies, including the University of Wisconsin, the Massey Cancer Institute, and the Mayo Clinic are so important.

National Institute of Health Reports on Scrambler Therapy study with CIPN patients.

These centers’ studies have confirmed that Calmare’s scrambler therapy is producing significantly positive results in minimizing or even eliminating pain from chemotherapy treatment.

“The FDA cleared the Calmare MC-5A device specifically to treat patients

with neuropathy as a result of chemotherapy,” says Dr. Michael Cooney.

“We have treated patients with CIPN since 2011 and have seen

dramatically positive outcomes firsthand.”

Live, No Cost Consultation with Dr. Cooney

We welcome you to contact us to learn more about using scrambler therapy as a non-invasive, painless treatment for nerve pain after cancer treatment. Our clinical director and founder, Dr. Michael Cooney, speaks personally with any potential Calmare patient.

Scrambler therapy is not right for everyone, and we will not recommend treatment unless Dr. Cooney determines there is a strong probability of pain relief for the patient.

Calmare is non-invasive, has no side effects and is 100% drug-free.

Meet 30 Calmare Therapy NJ Patients on YouTube

October 23, 2018

By Dr. Michael Cooney, Clinical Director, Calmare Therapy NJ USA

Most people who visit our website are already frustrated with the medical community.

They or a loved one are in pain.

Pain medication is not pain management, they have learned firsthand.

But a myriad of painful procedures, surgery and implanted devices have also failed to do their jobs.

Then what?

From unexplained neuropathy after surgery to diabetic neuropathy or pain after chemotherapy , too many people are left with unresolved neuropathy.

And they continue to lead debilitated lives, so unfairly.

I came to this conclusion years ago, which is what compelled me to launch Calmare scrambler, an FDA-cleared alternative therapy here in New Jersey in 2011.

Mayo Clinic Researchers Test Scrambler Therapy for Pain

It has no side effects, is painless to undergo. It’s drug-free. The worst case scenario is that the treatment does not work, which happens.

But in more than 75% of the patients we treat, their pain is significantly reduced–or eliminated.

Watch and listen to the patients for whom we have relieved severe chronic pain over the years–

From 10-year-old children to seniors who had battled neuropathy for decades, you will discover someone who has fought the same battle with pain that you do.

Then, we hope you’ll reach out via the contact form below, by emailing us at calmarenj@gmail.com or calling our clinic at (201) 933-4440.

A Better Therapy to Treat Nerve Damage after Chemotherapy (CIPN)

Calmare Therapy NJ USA Expands Again

September 10, 2018

By Dr. Michael J. Cooney Clinical Director

Calmare Certified Provider

By Dr. Michael J. Cooney, Clinical Director

I’ve been in the pain management field since Gerald Ford was president. Over the course of my career, I’ve seen countless pain management therapies and pain medications come and go.

During all of those years, I’ve never seen patient outcomes come anywhere close to what we have achieved with Calmare scrambler therapy.

Calmare NJ USA Patient Testimonials on YouTube

Since we introduced “the scrambler” in 2011, we have watched children, teens, adults and seniors’ lives transformed by its uncanny ability to reduce or eliminate chronic pain (neuropathy).

We have been able to help people who had already tried all the drugs, the invasive therapies, the painful procedures and the failed surgeries, without success.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think people in pain would travel to us for treatment from Australia, South Africa, South America, Europe and Canada.

Over 25% of Americans with Chronic Pain Affected by High Impact Chronic Pain (MD Magazine)

After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to close our physical therapy and chiropractic practice to free up my time to help more people fighting chronic pain as a result of:

* Surgery
* Cancer treatment (CIPN)
* Shingles (PHN)
* CRPS
* Fibromyalgia
* Diabetic neuropathy
* Other nerve pain conditions

Don’t get me wrong–scrambler therapy doesn’t work wonders for everyone, unfortunately. It is not a miracle treatment and you’ll never hear me say that it is.

But in the majority of people I have treated,
the pain reduction results have been life-changing.

So starting today, we will be able to help more people, provide quicker service and offer a broader range of appointments.

If you’re ready to try a newer way to fight pain, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s to winning the war on pain, one patient at a time.

BrainSpan™ Diagnostic Services Improve Calmare Patient Outcomes

April 18, 2018

Through the examination of nerve cells, we can diagnose potential inflammation, which may the root cause of chronic pain symptoms.

At Calmare Therapy NJ USA, your scrambler therapy protocol includes more than pre-treatment consultations, multiple therapy sessions — performed only by clinical director Dr. Michael Cooney — and monitored follow-up care.

BrainSpan™ Diagnostic Services– Only at Calmare NJ USA

Before your Calmare Therapy treatments begin, you will undergo two tests that diagnose cell health, the foundation for optimal brain and body health.

These simple blood (prick-only) and cognitive (performed online) tests measure cell health and inflammatory balance.

Nerve cells (neurons) stained and mounted for microscopic examination of health, abnormalities or inflammation.

“But what do cells have to do with my chronic pain?” you may ask.

Examining your cellular structure gives us (your treatment provider) a precise diagnostic measurement of the health of your cells and the overall nervous system.

Your brain’s connectors can become stronger or weaker over time due to small and repetitious physical, nutritional, or emotional events.

Brain health markers can be quantified by analyzing essential fatty acid biomarkers in your blood cells.

The Omega-3 Index Factor in Treating Nerve Pain

In partnership with our Calmare scrambler therapy, we concentrate on:

  • Omega-3 Index
  • Inflammatory Index
  • Palmitic Acid Index

A high Omega-3 Index can help provide effective pain relief for people with chronic musculoskeletal pain.

How Cell Health Diagnostics Can Help Chronic Pain Management

Neuropathies (chronic nerve pain) can be a direct result of deficiencies in the Omega 3’s that ultimately results in an inflammatory process (inflammation), which can lead to a prolonged pain cycle referred to as chronic pain or neuropathy.

We are excited to introduce BrainSpan™’s new and non-invasive diagnostic tools as a valuable partner with our FDA-cleared Calmare scrambler therapy treatment protocol.

Have Opioids and Other Pain Management Options Failed to Reduce Your Pain?

Answer Your Phone. It May Be Dr. Michael Cooney Calling

February 13, 2018

By Dr. Michael J. Cooney, Clinical Director

New Calmare patients are often astonished when I call them to discuss their cases and answer questions.

I’ve performed thousands of scrambler therapy treatments since we were one of the first in the U.S. to introduce Calmare in 2011.

I am happy to answer questions and ultimately make a determination if the patient may be right to undergo the treatments.

It shouldn’t be a rarity that doctors call patients, should it?

Since I began helping people defeat acute and chronic pain decades ago, I have believed that a strong relationship with every patient helps me to properly assess the holistic health of the person, which in turns helps me to more accurately diagnose the root cause/s of the pain.

Ultimately, I believe it leads to a more positive outcome for the patient.

A Calmare Patient from Australia Weighs in on Dr. Cooney’s Personal Approach

Kane Crampton wrote on Facebook recently:

“You’re one-of-a-kind Dr. Cooney!!

You have been the only doctor who has spoken on the phone to me in my 38 years alive, let alone the nearly 17 years I’ve been living with my condition.

If even a small number of doctors ‘took a leaf out of your book,’ it would not just help patients deal with what they’re going through… but also help open the discussion for those of us (& all other people with different conditions, illnesses etc) who keep it all so close to our chests.

I certainly know I wouldn’t be alone in saying that I am extremely grateful for not just the call, in which for me was probably as far away as civilization can be from New Jersey to Australia, but also for telling me to ‘Get to my room’ when I travelled over to see you and making it all as comfortable as possible.

Thank you also for putting up with my sense of humour and sharing yours.

So from the bearded bloke from sunny Berrima, NSW Australia, I say a huge THANK YOU to you & the team.

Keep up the good work you are doing. Keep smiling (especially when bearded Aussie blokes kiss you on the forehead…)”

Calmare is FDA-Cleared as a Therapy for Nerve Pain After Chemotherapy

January 8, 2018

Chemotherapy patients may experience resulting nerve damage, a condition called CIPN, which is resistant to traditional medical treatment, including painkillers.

It is one of the great frustrations of healthcare — how to mitigate pain.

Those who suffer most live every moment of every day in pain, due to a wide variety of factors.

This could not be more true for cancer patients who have endured chemotherapy in order to eradicate cancer cells from their bodies and achieve remission.

But some patients pay a price for this victory — they are left with painful nerve damage as a result of the powerful after-affects of the cancer-killing drugs.

This condition, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, or CIPN, has no cure.

Patients battling nerve pain after cancer treatment are often prescribed prescription painkillers  (more drugs) and, we hope, at least a few alternative therapy options.

We have treated patients with CIPN since 2011 and have seen these positive outcomes firsthand.

Deena Turns to Calmare Again to Combat Chemotherapy Nerve Pain (CIPN)

June 8, 2017

Deena Lotridge came to us in 2013 after suffering from RSD for five long years. She had tried every medication, treatment and therapy, without success.

She immediately charmed us all with her no-nonsense style and ‘let’s just cut to the chase’ point-of-view. We loved her and prayed her outcome would be successful (which it was).

Deena Fights Back Against CIPN

But her battle was not over. A few years later, Deena was diagnosed with cancer, requiring several surgeries and chemotherapy. The effects of the chemo resulted in nerve damage and reignited the RSD monster.

A few weeks ago she came back to New Jersey, this time for scrambler therapy to lessen chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), the original condition which helped Calmare win FDA-clearance in the U.S.

Thankfully, a few weeks after five Calmare booster treatments, Deena this update on Facebook:

“Thanks for all you do Dr. Cooney, not just for me, but for all of us. My RSD pain is still at 0, hands and feet still improving from CIPN. Did I mention I planted a garden and mowed the lawn today?”

Virginia Woman’s CRPS Causes 10/10 Pain and Feet Lesions

May 26, 2017

Debbie Meade’s son begged for her feet to be amputated so she would no longer suffer with excruciating CRPS pain.

Her debilitating chronic pain had spread and was causing severe swelling in her feet, which eventually caused the skin to tear. The resulting lesions did not heal naturally, leaving her open to the danger of infection.

In addition, her pain level was regularly 10/10 on the McGill Pain Scale.

Arriving here in New Jersey using two canes for mobility, her life was about to change dramatically.

Debbie describes her Calmare Therapy experience (May 2017)
Calmare Scrambler Therapy History and Clinical Trial Outcomes

Calmare Therapy is a drug-free, FDA-cleared treatment that safely scrambles the pain message from the brain. It is painless and has no side effects.

The first study on scrambler therapy was published in 2003 by a team of researchers led by Giuseppe Marineo, professor in Delta Research and Development at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in Italy.

His team found that scrambler therapy was effective in reducing pain symptoms in patients with severe, drug-resistant pain from terminal cancer.

Mayo Clinic physician and scrambler therapy researcher Charles L. Loprinzi, MD, reports on his team’s clinical findings with Healio (2016).

Scrambler Therapy Lessens Chronic Nerve Pain

Calmare (the brand name for the MC-5A scrambler therapy device) was later found to also aid in the lessening or alleviation of chronic nerve pain as a result of:

  • chemotherapy (CIPN)
  • diabetes (diabetic nerve pain)
  • fibromyalgia
  • back and neck pain
  • shingles (PHN)
  • failed back surgery syndrome
  • phantom limb pain
  • other neuropathic nerve pain conditions
Using Calmare to Reduce CRPS / RSD Neuropathy and Physical Symptoms

Clinical Director Dr. Michael Cooney at Calmare Therapy NJ USA has also successfully treated hundreds of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and RSD patients from around the world
